About Speaker
J’Son Tyson joined the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of the Chief Security Officer (OCSO) as the director of the Enterprise Security Solutions Division (ESSD) in January 2021. As a recognized leader in the federal identity, credential and access Management (ICAM) space, Tyson leads a diverse team responsible for delivering innovative ICAM-related solutions that protect the department’s people, infrastructure and information. His team acts as a trusted advisor to DHS agencies, developing and deploying advanced security solutions while providing comprehensive training, account management and service support desk functions.
Tyson oversees the modernization and management of credential issuance infrastructure and the supporting systems for suitability, fitness and clearance processing, contractor onboarding, adjudication, physical access and related reporting capabilities. He directs a $220 million DHS-wide Level 2 program that enables enterprise security operations in a dynamic and complex environment with particular focus on evolving workforce needs. By understanding stakeholder needs and prioritizing exemplary customer service, ESSD supports the department’s security lines of business and drives innovation in a constantly evolving landscape.
Prior to joining OCSO, Tyson spent 14 years at the Federal Emergency Management Agency in a range of leadership positions, including director of the Personnel Security Division and chief of the Identity Credential Access Management Division. He was responsible for overseeing personnel security policies, background investigations, adjudications and the modernization of physical security infrastructure.
Tyson previously served 10 years in the U.S. Army in several leadership roles. He received a digIT Cybersecurity Finalist Award in 2017 and a Service to Citizens Award in 2018.
